De expositie Afrikaanse Fantasie Maskers in The College Hotel Amsterdam bestaat uit elf portretten van vrouwen met een beschilderd gezicht dat overgaat in een versierend masker. De decoratie is gebaseerd op traditionele Afrikaanse maskers die in deze vorm een eigen creatieve interpretatie hebben gekregen. Een specifieke context ontbreekt doelbewust. De achtergrond probeert het karakter van de versieringen te vergroten, waardoor de decoratieve eigenschappen van de maskers worden versterkt. De blik van de vrouwen is trots, maar blijft tegelijkertijd mysterieus, alsof ze hun geheim niet willen prijsgeven.
Joost Bolten, voormalig universitair docent mediastudies aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam, beschouwt de werken als een experimenteel project om de artistieke toepassingen van Artificial Intelligence te onderzoeken, in al zijn mogelijkheden, beperkingen en risico’s. Elk werk op doek is (en blijft) origineel en uniek.
